1/30/2017 0 Comments Writing EffectivelyWriting effectively is a key part of public relations. In this section, we learned four different ways to write effectively. The first is to write with clarity. Writing with clarity means to write in a way that is easy for the reader to clearly understand your point. It also means to arrange a sentence in a way that doesn't confuse the reader. The next way to write effectively is by reducing clutter. Reducing clutter address wordiness and means to eliminate superfluous words. This is by taking phrases or words and shortening them. The third way to write effectively is through sentence variety. Sentence variety means to include simple sentences with compound sentences and compound-complex sentences. It also is defined by making sure sentences don't start with the same words. The last way to write effectively is to use proper sentence emphasis. Sentence emphasis means to stress certain parts of a sentence in the right way. You don't want the reader to not fully grasp the meaning or impact of the sentence, so you put the most important parts at the beginning or at the end. Here are some good and bad examples of the ways to write effectively:
Writing with Clarity Bad: The television, which was loud, is off. Good: I turned off the loud television. Reducing clutter Bad: In spite of the fact that you are in love with him, he doesn't feel the same. Good: Although you are in love with him, he doesn't feel the same. Sentence variety Bad: This is my favorite place to eat. The food is amazing. Good: This is my favorite place to eat because the food is amazing. Sentence emphasis Bad: The woman said an hour ago that the flight is delayed because of the snow. Good: Because of the snow, the flight is delayed, the woman said.

1/24/2017 0 Comments Professional PortraitHi everyone! My name is Haley Hogan. I am a sophomore public relations major at the University of Oklahoma. I live in Norman, but I am originally from Bixby, Oklahoma. I have fallen in love with my major; I think it is one of the best at the University of Oklahoma. I think it's great because I know when I get a job in public relations that each day will be different. I also love the fast paced environment surrounding public relations. A big thing that motivates me is my passion for what I want to do. I want to work in public relations in the fashion sector. I want to live in New York City after college, and I am not going to let anybody or anything hold me back from it. This dream is what pushes me every day in school. I enjoy writing, and I think that's why I love public relations. I love to blog, and I've enjoyed almost all my assignments in my public relations classes. I have an internship where I write articles about what I wear, and I think that is my favorite type of writing I've done so far. I am excited to learn and write for public relations writing. I can't wait to see what this semester has in store.
10/20/2016 0 Comments my favorite drugstore makeup1. L'oreal Infallible Pro-Matte 24-HR Foundation
This foundation is absolutely amazing. This is my every day foundation, and I love it. It's funny because most people use nicer foundations and drugstore for other products, but I'm the opposite. Finding the right foundation is hard, and I feel like once you find one you really like you shouldn't waste time trying to find a better one. I like how this keeps my face matte, but it isn't full coverage. It goes on smoothly too. I apply it with a Morphe M439 brush. 2. Maybelline Fit Me Concealer This concealer is awesome because it's build-able. You can put on just a small amount and get nice sheer coverage, or you can build it up to be more full coverage. It doesn't get cakey either if you need a full coverage look. Sometimes it does give you creases, but it normally isn't until the end of the day. I still think it's a great concealer, especially for the price. 3. NYX Matte Lipstick This lipstick line is absolutely one of my favorites. I think the quality is almost equivalent to Mac's matte lipsticks. My absolute favorite color is Shocking Pink. I do not own a lipstick better than this. The pigment is absolutely amazing, and it stays on forever. And I mean forever. I own several other shades in this, and all of them are extremely high quality as well. 4. Maybelline Pumped Up! Colossal Volum'Express This mascara is wonderful for volume. It separates your lashes and makes them look soft and wispy. I love to put this on after my first coat of mascara to give my lashes some extra drama. I have tried so many different drug store mascaras, and this one is still my favorite. 5. NYX Butter Gloss These glosses are just like how they sound- buttery. They feel so smooth on your lips without feeling sticky. The pigment is to die for, and they stay on for so long. I find myself grabbing these over my high end glosses all the time. My favorite shades are Tiramisu, Eclair and Meringue. 6. NYX Matte Finish Makeup Setting Spray People can be skeptical about finishing sprays, but I think this one is amazing. I still set my face with powder, but this product really sets all your makeup in place after you're done with it. If you set your face with powder and finish it off with this, then your face will stay matte all day long. I highly recommend this for people with oily skin. 7. Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner This gel liner is no joke. It is so creamy and pigmented. The jar also lasts you forever without drying out, which is so nice. I prefer to do winged tips with a liquid liner, but I like to apply all my other eyeliner with this. I apply it with an EcoTools angled brush. 8. NYX Eyebrow Gel I talked about this in a previous post; however, it is so amazing that is worth mentioning again. This stuff makes your brows bulletproof. End of story. 9. L'oreal Brow Stylist This brow gel is bomb. I used to use the Benefit Gimme Brow, which is awesome, but I think this is a great dupe for it. It adds a nice tint to your brows and keeps them in place. My eyebrows get curly, so this stuff helps to straighten and set them. I love to fill in my brows with powder and set them with this. I know a majority of these products are NYX, but I do think the brand comes out with some of the most high quality drugstore products. I love new drugstore finds, so let me know your favorite drugstore products in the comments. All of these products can be found at Ulta, Target or CVS. All my love. 10/19/2016 0 Comments My favorite fashion blogsWhile I obviously enjoy my own new blog, I would not have been able to start this without inspiration from others. These bloggers all have different styles, and they make no apologies for who they are. I have not only been inspired by their outfits, but also by their photography and way of writing.
1. Gal Meets Glam Julia is the ultimate girly girl. She is one of the most popular bloggers, but she has good reason to be. She loves to show off her girly side, and she always just looks so classy. She is also so humble and down to earth, which you can definitely see through her posts. I really do take her advice to heart because she makes you feel like you're her friend sitting there with her. 2. The Sweetest Thing I love Emily's blog because she has amazing advice, but she also lives in Tulsa like me. She provides details on all of her outfits and makeup looks, and I love the style of photography she uses. She features some expensive pieces, but she balances it out with some cheaper things as well. I like when bloggers don't always just wear high-end things; it makes them more relatable. 3. Atlantic Pacific Blair Eadie provides a girly, high-fashion style that everyone can envy. This blog is my guilty pleasure because I cannot afford most of the clothes, but a girl can dream, right? I love to scroll through her Instragram; however, her blog doesn't provide many outfit details, just where the items can be found. 4. Mimosas and Manhattan I love this blog because it's not one girl but two. These two stylish cousins bring an eclectic, trendy style that is oh so unique. They aren't afraid to mix patterns or wear a bold color, which I love. I have a hard time getting outside of my comfort zone in my neutral color palette, and I also am not very daring when it comes to mixing patterns. Their posts provide inspiration for me to push the limit. I also enjoy that they tell it like it is in their posts and aren't afraid to sugar coat things. 5. Darling Detail Her style is simple and girly. Most of the outfits she posts in are pretty simple, but she wears them in a way that makes them seem so exciting. She adds and effortlessly chic vibe to each of her outfits too. I like how in her writing you can really see her personality shine through. 6. Mia Mia Mine I only recently discovered this blog on Instagram, but it has been one of my favorites for inspiration the past few months. Maria makes all her outfits seem so glamourous. She pays attentions to the little details in each of them, and I think that's what makes her unique. She has a beauty category on her website, but fashion definitely seems to be the main priority of her blog. 7. Kayleigh's Kloset I discovered this blog in high school, but then I found out she was a blogger based at OU (my school), which is seriously so cool. Kayleigh doesn't always stick to one style, which I like, but she always finds ways to incorporate colors into all her pieces. She features the most affordable pieces out of this list, which I like knowing I might be able to afford the whole outfit a blogger is wearing. I love finding new blogs to find inspiration from, so comment some of your favorites below. All my love. 10/13/2016 0 Comments my current wishlist1. Leopard Coat
Oh my goodness, this coat is to die for. I am obsessed with anything leopard or fur, so I obviously am in love with this coat. I would love to throw this on for a night out or even just a day of shopping. You could throw this on with a simple outfit, and it would completely transform it. You can find this at Zara. 2. Velvet Dress I am loving the blush trend this season. This dress is encompassing a lot of my favorite trends lately: blush, off the shoulder and velvet. This would be so fun to wear to holiday parties. I would love to pair it with some emerald earrings. You can find this at Pixie Market. 3. Grey Satchel I absolutely love the color of this purse. I also like how this is different than Tory Burch's normal structured style. It would be great to take with you if you were running errands all day. 4. Pinstripe Top I love the menswear style of this shirt. I also like how it's oversized, but it doesn't look like it's swallowing you. The choker is optional to wear with it, but I think it makes it unique. You can find this at Pixie Market. 5. Velvet Bodysuit Are you seeing a trend with the pink and velvet? I love how it mixes the velvet with a draped style. This would be perfect paired with ripped black jeans. You can find this at Zara too. 6. Herringbone Blazer I love the mixture of this classic style with a more edgy look with the zippers. You could wear this to the office or over a t-shirt and jeans. Herringbone is one of my favorite patterns, and I think this is perfect for fall and winter time. You can find this at River Island. 7. Zac Posen Handbag I have never owned a Zac Posen bag, but this looks amazing. I love the deep red with the calf hair on the front. This is nice classic bag for fall and winter. You can find this at Nordstrom. 8. Leather Jacket Okay, I promise this is my last pink item. This jacket is fabulous. I love to mix girly and edgy looks, and this jacket is the perfect mixture of both. It is also cheaper because it is faux leather, which I think is better anyways. You can find this at River Island. 9. Fur Clutch This clutch is seriously so fun. I love the fur. I think it's perfect for a night out in the winter, and it's not expensive either, so that makes it even better! You can find this at Zara. These are just a few things on my current wish list right now. Hopefully I can get a hold of some of them soon. Let me know what you're wishing for right now. All my love. 1. Strapless Bra
A strapless bra is an essential to a girl's wardrobe. I am always so surprised when girl's I know don't own one. If you don't have one, go buy one now. I always recommend a nude strapless bra. You really don't need more than because let's be real, they are not comfy. But if you're going to only have one, get a nude one to keep it as neutral and versatile as possible. This bra is strapless, but you can even add straps to it, which makes it even better. Aerie has a great strapless bra with attachable straps too, and they also have great sales. 2. White T-Shirt If you know me, you know I love a good white tee. This is so essential. You can do so much with a plain white tee. You can dress it up, or keep it as casual as possible. Find a comfy one that isn't too tight. This H&M tee is great, and it's even on sale right now. This one from Forever 21 is simple with a twist. 3. Nice Cocktail Dress Every girl needs a dress that makes them feel like the prettiest girl in the world. There are no rules to this. It is whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident. This red dress is great, as well as this sequin dress and this this nude dress. 4. Red Lipstick Red lipstick is one of my favorite ways to spice up an outfit. I think red lipstick looks good on everyone; all you need to pull it off is confidence. I love Mac Ruby Woo, Kat Von D Outlaw and NYX Eden. 5. Black Heels Blacks heels are needed because you can pair them with any outfit, and it will automatically be much dressier. If you don't know how to walk in heels, then I recommend learning. There are going to be times where you will need to wear heels, and while it's not always fun, it's bound to happen. They don't have to be super high either. Every girl just needs a good, basic black heel. These Steve Madden heels are nice. I also like these ones with the bow. These Vince Camuto heels are great as well. 6. Stud Earrings A pair of stud earrings can sometimes be the tiny missing piece of an outfit. Whether they're pearls, diamonds or spikes, they can easily add that little flare an outfit needs. These don't have to be expensive either. I always buy cheap studs because I am constantly losing mine. This pair is great if you're looking for something different but still glam. I love little sets like these because they're cheap and give you a lot to choose from. I also won't ever be upset if I lose a pair. 7. Nice Pair of Jeans I did not buy a nice pair of jeans until I was a junior in high school, but I was missing out. One nice pair of jeans can get you so far. Designer jeans really do make a difference if you find some that fit right. A majority of the time they are much more comfortable than cheaper jeans, and nine times out of ten, they make your butt look better too. I promise you this is something worth investing in. Nordstrom Rack has some nice jeans for great prices, like these Hudson jeans or these Joe's Jeans. 8. Nice Handbag This one might be a bit controversial, but I think a nice handbag is essential in a girl's closet. However, I have a deep love for handbags that many people do not understand. A nice purse can really make you feel good about yourself though. It doesn't need to have brands splashed all over it, and it doesn't even need to be extremely expensive either. I do think a nice handbag can really boost a girl's confidence though. This Tory Burch bag is great because it's a classic look that comes in several different colors, and it's big enough to hold all of your things. This is an interchangeable list. Some things may be a compromise, but there might be other items you think are completely necessary to have that I didn't list, which is great. What's so great about posts like these is that it's all a matter of opinion. Let me know which of these items you own in your own closet in the comments. All my love. 10/6/2016 0 Comments 2016 Fall Must HavesFall is finally arriving, and I couldn't be more excited. While Oklahoma weather is still pretty warm right now, I can't help but dream about 50 degree weather. These pieces are some of the things I am most excited to wear this upcoming season.
As we all know bomber jackets are the new trend this season, thanks to celebs like Gigi Hadid. I think the jacket is great for days with a breeze because it is light and comfortable. The great thing about this jacket too is you can dress it up or dress it down. I also really love the lilac/mauve color, which also seems to be pretty popular this season as well. I like it because it's different than most colors associated with fall like jewel tones. Speaking of new colors for fall, I think this sweater also shows that the typical fall colors are changing. While it leans more towards more traditional fall colors, I think the unique brown is interesting. I also think it could flatter a variety of skin tones. This sweater is also super comfy, which is the best of both worlds, comfy and trendy. It also isn't too heavy, so it is perfect for the transition from fall to winter. These over the knee boots are to die for. While I do love my booties, I am loving the over the knee look. These boots can transform any simple outfit into something bold. The heels aren't too high to where they are super uncomfortable either. This scarf. Ugh. I have always loved scarves, and this one is too die for. It's not too heavy but not too light. I like the neutral color and pattern, so you could wear it with black or something colorful. These pearl earrings are my new favorites. I love the twist on the classic pearl. Pearl earrings will never go out of style, but I like the modern, dramatic look of these. These jeans are some of my favorite jeans I have ever owned. I love the light wash that you can combine with darker colors for fall. They are also the perfect amount of the distressed look without looking raggedy. They are a boyfriend style, but they don't look too baggy either. They also are so soft and under $50. Lastly, this lip color is to die for. I love Colourpop because the formulas are great, and they aren't expensive. The color is unique, and I also like the satin look because matte lips have been so popular lately. It's something different, and it's comfortable on the lips. Fall is one of my favorite seasons, and I love all the clothes that come with it. I hope everyone embraces their fall looks and enjoys their pumpkin spice lattes. All my love. |
